Psalm 119:9-16/Beth
Psalm 119:9-18 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. With all my heart I have sought Thee: Do not let me wander from thy commandments. Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee. Blessed art Thou. O LORD; Teach me your statutes. With my lips I have told of all the ordinates of Thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of the way of Thy testimonies, as much as in riches. I will meditate on Thy precepts, and regard Thy ways. I shall delight in Thy statutes; I shall not forget Thy word.”
Young men are seeking to be cleansed, they are concerned with the ways of the world and how they can remain pure of the lusts of the flesh and the guiles of the world. How can a young man keep pure? By following the example of Jesus. God so loved us that he sent his Son that we could have the knowledge to learn what the sons of man had not been able to understand. By putting ourselves in the lifestyle of Jesus, we are a reflection of the Godly and holy purpose. What can we gain if we look first to God before we act or speak? We can achieve great and blessed lives.
So when the psalm says I seek you with all my heart, are we then not to reject the greedy, selfish and foolish ways of the world? Let me love to keep God’s ways, let me be glad to follow in the traditions that others have lovingly sought. Make it my desire to know all I can of God. I dream of being perfected in the Will of my Savior.
To hide in the word of God in or hearts is not to keep it a secret but to keep it in a safe place so that we do lose it or forget what it is. To make it so entrenched in our life that it becomes next to impossible to sin against God or man. God’s great commandment was to love Him with our entire being and to love each other with the same value we place on ourselves. Failing to love is self rejection.
What can a young man do? Maybe ask an old man like me who has know hate, rejection and ridicule and then has found God’s Love endearing. Reach out to the wisdom of the LORD to learn of mercy, courage, hope and life. Accept that He is in control and surrender all to His Grace and Love. Be glad for the opportunities God sets before you. Think of His peace, His understanding and His graciousness. To find true peace recount how God has interacted in your life even before you know Him. Every time you are tempted, think of His Word, His Grace and mostly, His mercy. Let God’s power lead you to do what is right and pleasing to Him.
Rejoice in keeping God’s will; Christ can do that if we focus on His life as our example. The Holy spirit will guide us that have life in the fullest. For that reason Jesus left Heaven. We are not to have droll and boring lives, but happy and complete lives, filled with laughter and glad tidings. No matter what the world throws at us, God made us to endure and come out Blessed. Find ways to see the joy of the LORD with trouble abound, that is what I had to do. Find ways to share the Joy of Salvation with others. It isn’t as hard as you would think. Peace is there for those who do not neglect the Word of God.
So, how does a young man stay pure? Love, live, speak and share the Word of God, the Good News of Jesus.
