Psalm 119:49-56/ Zayin
Remember the word to Thy servant,
In which Thou hast made me hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction,
That Thy word has revived me.
The arrogant utterly deride me,
Yet I do not turn aside from Thy Law.
Thy statutes are my songs
In the house of my pilgrimage.
O LORD, I remember Thy Name in the night,
And keep Thy Law.
This has become mine,
When in the course of our Christian walk, we are harassed by the worldly and selfish enemies of righteousness, we are to come to God in prayer for His strength. Don’t be afraid to plead with God in times of attack. Living in today’s world has it’s pitfalls and even though we may feel safe in our homes, remember those who are suffering percussions elsewhere. God’s promise is a permanent promise. He does not go back on what He has told us. His Hope is an eternal Hope, given through the end of time.
As followers of the Salvation of Jesus, we are equipped not only to withstand the trials of evil men, we are to teach and uplift others how to rely on God. Just look at Job, He was harassed even by His wife to forsake God. Job was told to curse God but did he do so? No! Job may have been angry with God for letting bad things happen, but he did not reject Him. So, we also must stay in the path of righteousness even though the world seems to turn against us. We are not to be persuaded by sad and regretful events to turn from God. Instead these are the times that we are to draw closer to Christ, to seek comfort in our sorrow and grief.
It is when we turn our faces to Jesus that every grief is ripped away. It is when we are faced with mockery because we turn to God, that we are given strength from God to stand firm. And if we do this, stand firm in the face of persecution, then the generations that follow, will also find courage to face the enemies of God. When we who obey God in all things reject the foolishness of the mockers of Faith, the lessons are remembered in the future. Others will also obey God because we have chosen to serve a righteous God. God’s Spirit works within us, His Word is our bond with Him. Christ has made us alive in grace that were dead in sin. His Word is our comfort when challenged by fate, in our times of stress and affliction. Matthew Henry says of the Power of the Word of God; “If through Grace, it makes us holy, there is enough in it to make us easy in all conditions, under all events.” Turning and returning to he Word of God is where Grace can find us. Seek God in His Righteousness through the Power of His Word and His Law.
We are never to shirk from His Law or from the duty to adhere to it. Nor are we to slip from going the extra yard in the service of God’s Love toward others. Bear a little for Christ, for Him that bore so much for us. Are we ever to face the torment that Jesus faced? Is there ever a time that we will be asked to do as Jesus was asked? We may have to lay down our lives for our Faith but will we ever have to die that others may have life? Yield only for the cause of integrity, the purpose of Christ and the living Spirit of God. Find comfort in the joy of Jesus and the love of God’s word. God rewards His faithful, He punishes the deceitful. God will reject those who claim to serve Him, but in truth, serve other gods. He will turn over to judgment those who reject His law.
We are to be as Ezra and “pull out our hair” at the sins of man. Maybe we should do as Nehemiah, and pull out the hair of the enemies of the Law. In his anger at the Children of Israel, Moses broke the tablets because they went back to the ways of Egypt and idolatry. Yet here we are in today’s world, slipping into false worship by rejecting God’s Law of Old and embracing “new ideas” that make mockery of God’s purpose for us to live Holy and Blameless in the face of temptations and defilement. We are to live on a pilgrimage of Faith and Hope, walking with Love in all that grace provides. Do not be fooled with easy answers and shortcuts to Salvation. Rejoice in the desires of God and walk evey day in his will.
And pray! As Paul did, pray into the midnight hours and early dawn. As David, lay awake nights, thinking of God, wanting to learn His will. Be proud of the unfailing Love of God in your awakening hour and put God first
