The Devil’s in My Computer
When I tried to open my computer this morning and found a mess. I lost my spell check, I could activate my password and couldn’t and many of the games I play on line (yeh, I’m addicted to some simple games) and I could not get on.
Well, I finally got a new password (I will never remember it). I’m taking my computer the “Doctor” for a check up. I may have to borrow someone’s to post or read anything.

I got my computer back Friday and hooked up again. I’m back in business! And as I looked into the Stats file, I see that I’ve picked up some new readers overseas. Welcome all of you! I feel as if I have been lost in the desert, oh wait, I live in a desert!
Psalm 119:73-80 (Yodh)
You made me; you created me.
Now give me the sense to follow your commands
May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy.
for I have put my hope in your Word.
I know, O LORD, that your decisions are fair;
You discipline me because I needed it.
Now let your unfailing Love comfort me.
just as You promised me, your servant.
Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live,
for Your law is my delight.
Bring disgrace upon the the arrogant people who lied about me;
meanwhile, I will concentrate on your commandments.
Let me be reconciled
with all who fear You and know Your decrees.
May I be blameless in keeping your principles;
then I will never have to be ashamed. Psalm 119:73-80 (NLT)
Every person is the work of God’s hands, the creation of his desires. God has raised us up from the dust of the earth for His Great Pleasure, for the enjoyment of His Heart. He has set us apart from the other creatures of the world by giving to us the ability to comprehend that He Is, God of creation and that we where made for His purpose. We are given the ability to understand that we are of God will. We can reason the existence of God and we can understand He has a purpose for us. We can understand the why and the how of His Law. We can comprehend the purpose of His commandments.
Those who stive to live in God’s will and purpose have an awesome fear, a fear that is tendered by love and not timidness. These can rejoice in His Law and not tremble, they have the Hope of Salvation, the Joy of the Word living in Christ Jesus. They rejoice in an glorious and loving fear that is not one of shame but one that recognizes the awesome and glorious power that created us. Those are the ones who strive and yearn to live in obedience of the Law of Love that is in Christ Jesus and who seek to serve God, their Father in all things. Not because they are in dread of Him but because they love Him. Those are the ones who desire with all their hearts to adhear to the Word of God because it is the Nature of the New Creation that is in Christ’s Salvation. We seek and have a passion for the Law because it was given to us as a gift from God. We live by the rule of God’s Mercy and Love and we seek correction when we are wrong.

We need only to practice stillness (when in prayer), with our mind turned Godward, to experience such a calm, such a peace, such a joy, that we recognize it is God’s presence, and wait eagerly for Him to speak. Frances Foulks Effectual Prayer

Psalm 146 is one of the most powerful songs of the Old Law. It is referred to as The LORD an Abundant Helper. “How blessed is he whose help is the God Jacob (vs. 5),Who executes justice for the oppressed(vs.7) The LORD protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow;But he thwarts the way of the wicked. (vs.9)”
It has always been clear to me that the responsibility of caring for the neglected has rested on the churches. Because the Nations have been under the Law of God, they should share in the burden for those who can not be helped by a church. Because the churches and the synagogues are unable to take on the burden of those who are not afflicted with a faith. But it also takes a commitment by the people to be honest with their tithe and their offerings. There are many organizations that are not Church Affiliated that are doing wonderful work but it still falls upon the Children to set aside a portion to care for the needs of the community. Because of the many that do not know the Lord and who unreachable to the Word, the government should reach out to them.
The message that is being placed here is that the churches need to step up and take charge of the caring for the widow, orphans and the homeless sojourners that fill our towns and cities. When God told the people Judea and Israel through Isaiah to Repent, He said (Isaiah 1:17) “Learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless; Defend the orphan, plead for the widow.” He continues with (vs.18) ” Come now, and let us reason together.” He then proceeds to tell them of the transgressions against God and he ends with: (Isaiah 1:23) “…They do not bring justice to the fatherless ant the widow’s cause does not come to them.”

For months now I have been wondering why one of my three postings on Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31) was getting all the hits while the other two were not being viewed at all. So I went back and reviewed them and found that I had misspelled poor Lazarus’ name. The funny thing is that the one with the misspelled name (part II) was the getting all the hits while part I and the conclusion were not viewed at all. It is curious why Part I and the conclusion are seldom read at all. You would think that the readers would like to start at the beginning and read all three parts.
Well, I told you guys that I was dyslexic and could spell very good, but I guess that it didn’t matter much after all. Besides, nobody ever seems to get Lazarus’ name right, do they?

The caring of the “fatherless” orphans and the widows is a long tradition under the Law of God. But it seems to me that in today’s policies that we have as churches and as communities forgotten that the Law of God still applies. It is as if we because we are “free from the bond of the Law” seem to think that it allows us to ignore the needs of our church families and the needs of the many people throughout the world that are in special need of Christian Love.
When we say to God that we love Him and yet neglect those in the most need of care and assistance, we forget that Jesus said that we are to care for the least of these. And when God spoke to Moses and gave him the Law, he spoke to the Nation of Israel. He established the Church and the nation of His people. The Law was not only for the individual but for community. Not only for the Nation and its people but also for the leaders of the Religious community and for the leaders of each tribe of the Sons of Abraham. It became the responsibility of the Church, the Government and the individual to Obey and to serve God’s will.
The point I am making is that just because Jesus may not have addressed the caring of widows and orphans directly, it is still the responsibility of ours to see to the welfare and care of them. Just because we are not “bound” to the Law does not excuse us from honoring it. We can not ignore or allow the churches, governments or each other from neglecting, abandoning or abusing the needs of the elderly or the very young. This is not a debate over the liberal or the conservative outlook of our governments, it is the critical responsibility of all. It is a matter of understanding and obeying God’s will as set down by his Law given to Moses in the dessert.

Plutarch once said, “That state of life is most happy when superfluities are not required and the necessities are not wanting.” Well, I can say with all sincerity, that my necessities have been met and met well. All I ever needed in life was a good wife, respect of my children and the Love of God.
Sunday, September 7, 2008 marks our thirty-ninth wedding anniversary and we where told by all but two of our freinds that it would not last six months. When people ask me how long I’ve been married I often answer with “All my life because my life began when I married Colleen.”
Even when I did not know God (or Jesus Christ), I knew that we were supposed to be together, and when my bad behavior threatened this relationship, it was God that pulled us back.
Because my love for my wife and family was so important to me, I was forced to seek out God to save our marriage. In the process, I came to the saving, redeeming Grace of Christ. Now, even today I can not imagine how my life would be without my wife beside me. Even when she is away for even one night, I have trouble getting a good night’s sleep.
God has blessed me with Colleen and our two children. To Him, I give thanks. And I renew my pledge to the God I did not know, I will stand by my wife, faithful in all things, until the day I die and I pray to God that we are not separated by death for many years to come. I jokingly say that I promise to be faithful until we celebrate our seventy-fifth anniversary and that is still a long way off.
So I say to the world, I LOVE COLLEEN SHIRAS even more this day than ever before, and I will LOVE HER MORE TOMORROW than today. Thank you Jesus for putting her in my life.
