Well I just returned from Anguilla, BWI and I must report that it was the best vacation I have had. What a relaxed and laid back little country. They have no industry, or agriculture to speak of, nor do they seem to have that much tourism. Yet somehow, everybody seems to have a job. Many travel to other islands and work, there is a fair amount of construction going on and of course the lobster fishing is good.
But what blessed me the most was how freely they share their faith. Almost everybody I talked with had some story to tell of how God blessed them. The friend we traveled with has had a liver transplant and If we told anybody why she wore gloves all the time or a mask in crowded places they would reply, “Praise God! Let me tell you how God has blessed my life.” and we would learn of what miracle God had worked for them.
The Island has only 14,000 permanent residents, most are descendants of slaves yet everywhere you turn around there is another little church. We went to a First Baptist Church Sunday and even though we had a had time understanding his thick accent we got many nuggets of wisdom from his lesson from Luke 14:7-24. “We may not have room for Jesus, but he has room for us.” “Stop making excuses and go to the Lord’s Table and share in the feast!” and “The ram was not the sacrifice substitute for Isaac, Jesus was.” Every body in the church came and shook our hands even the smallest of children.
This little, proud country had a “revolution” to stay a seperate dependant colony of England. Without armed conflict they fought for the right to self determine and the right to form a government of peers. They even created a official position for those who disagreed with them. It is just an hour’s flight from Porto Rico, I twenty minute ferry ride from St. Maarten and worth every minute.
